Abraham Colfe Festival
A weekend of events took place on
1st and 2nd May 2010 to celebrate
the 400th anniversary of
the induction of Rev. Abraham Colfe
as Vicar of Lewisham.
Colfe was inducted on May 1st 1610 and
served as the Parish priest of St. Mary's Church
for 47 years.
He founded two schools, a library and almshouses
for the benefit of Lewisham people.
The festival, based at St. Mary's Church, featured a splendid Choral Evensong with music from the time of Colfe, an exhibition about his life and work and open bellringing sessions.
