Our churchyard has many wonderful and interesting monuments including some from the medieval church. The inscriptions are badly eroded but they were transcribed in 1889 by Herbert Kirby and Leland Duncan and further research was carried out by Ken White in 1992.
There is a very impressive monument to Ebenezer Blackwell who lived at 'The Limes' in Lewisham High Street. John and Charles Wesley stayed with him many times over a long period of years. Lewisham was a great refuge for John Wesley and is mentioned many times in his diaries.

Unfortunately, the inscriptions to Blackwell and his wife Elizabeth are missing.

In the part of the churchyard near the River Ravensbourne is buried Thomas Dermody, the renowned Irish poet, who died in 1802 aged 28. The fine monuments to the Desvignes and How families are well worth looking at as are those to Captain Charles Weller of the East India Company and to Henry Stainton of 'Springfield,' Rushey Green.
