Our churchyard has many wonderful and interesting monuments including some from the medieval church. The inscriptions are badly eroded but they were transcribed in 1889 by Herbert Kirby and Leland Duncan and further research was carried out by Ken White in 1992. Unfortunately, the inscriptions to Blackwell and his wife Elizabeth are missing. In the part of the churchyard near the River Ravensbourne is buried Thomas Dermody, the renowned Irish poet, who died in 1802 aged 28. The fine monuments to the Desvignes and How families are well worth looking at as are those to Captain Charles Weller of the East India Company and to Henry Stainton of 'Springfield,' Rushey Green.
