In1994 the organ was removed and replaced by the present ‘Allen’ organ to enable the re-ordering of the chancel.

The picture on the left shows the ‘Brindley & Foster’ organ console built in 1882 and placed in the north transept of the Victorian Chancel.

In 1952 the organ was enlarged and rebuilt by ‘Spurden Rutt & co’ as seen on the
right.

ORGAN HISTORY
Records show that in 1521 Stephen Colman left the residue of his goods towards the purchase of a “payre of organs.” When the church was take down in 1774, arrangements were made for the safe custody of the then existing organ with a view to its re-erection in the new building. Samuel Spencer, Esq in about 1790, presented the church with a larger instrument, but it was in its turn replaced by another, erected by public subscription. This last, which stood like its two predecessors in the western gallery, was removed with the gallery in 1881. A plan of the gallery and organ can be found here
